COUNTY WILL KEEP 'TENTACLE' OF HISTORIC LAND, AT LEAST FOR NOW.(Local)

A historically significant, 6,000-foot-long "tentacle" of land that runs along the western side of state Route 4 in this eastern Saratoga County town will remain in the county's hands for at least another month and probably permanently, county officials said last week.

The land, which covers about 20 acres and contains one of the few intact portions of the Champlain Canal, was to have been sold Friday, when sealed bids for the land were to have been opened by the county's Equalization and Assessment Committee.
